Why we exist

Operators deserve better than a workaround

Almost every established business runs partly on a workaround. A spreadsheet one person maintains. A shared inbox doing the routing. A step in the process that exists because two systems will not speak to each other and somebody has to copy fields between them.

None of that appears on an invoice, which is why it survives for years. It is also where the margin goes, and where the risk sits: no audit trail, no validation, no access control, and one person who knows which cells are safe to touch.

The usual answers make it worse. A platform subscription asks you to run your business the way the platform was written, and the gap between the two becomes another spreadsheet. A collection of separate vendors for strategy, design, engineering and integration produces four relationships and no one accountable for the seam between them.

Sawhorse exists to be the other option. One team covering strategy, design, engineering, integrations, quality assurance, deployment and support. Software shaped around how you actually work. And at delivery it is yours: the source code, the intellectual property and the documentation, with nothing held back to keep you tied in.

What we hold to

  1. Engineering you can examine
    Case studies explain the operational problem, implementation boundaries and delivered capabilities. Proposed architecture is distinguished from verified project facts.
  2. Plain speech
    Specific, direct language. We would rather say what a thing does than describe it in the vocabulary of a brochure.
  3. Fixed scope before any build
    Written and agreed before work starts. Changes afterwards are written decisions with their impact stated.
  1. You own it outright
    One hundred percent of the intellectual property, the full source code and all documentation at delivery. Sawhorse keeps nothing.
  2. We will talk you out of it
    When an existing tool solves your problem, or when the honest answer is a process change rather than software, we say so.
  3. Nothing invented
    No fabricated statistics, no stock testimonials, no certifications we do not hold. If we have not measured it, we do not publish a number.

Approach

AI first, which is not the same as AI everywhere

We are an AI first engineering company. That describes how we work, not a product we are selling you.

AI first means two things. We use modern tooling throughout our own engineering, with a named engineer accountable for every line that ships. And when we look at your operation, language models are one of the tools on the table rather than the conclusion we started from.

A great deal of work that arrives described as an AI problem is a missing integration, an unenforced process, or a rule that could be written in ten lines of code. We will tell you that, and recommend the cheaper fix, because a pilot that never ships is worse for both of us than a boring integration that works.

Where a model genuinely is the right answer, the engineering is in the parts nobody demonstrates: retrieval quality, permission filtered grounding, typed tools, guardrails enforced in code, and an evaluation set of real cases so quality is a measurement rather than an impression.
